The Coen brothers are the latest film directors to make the jump to television.

That's after the announcement that the brothers will be writing and directing their first television series this year. There's been little information about the content of the show other than it's called The Ballad of Buster Scruggs and will be a Western anthology series.

  • Terrence Malick has a new film releasing this year. Shot back to back with his previous film, Knight of Cups , the film, titled Song to Song, arrives in US cinemas on March 17. It's a modern-day love story set against the backdrop of the music scene in Austin, Texas, and stars Rooney Mara, Ryan Gosling, Michael Fassbender and Natalie Portman.
  • There's still a week left to catch some of The Bioscope in Johannesburg's topical and tongue-in-cheek year in review film selections, including the original Westworld, Purple Rain and Donald Trump's The Art of the Deal: The Movie. www.thebioscope.co.za.
