Showers across much of the country‚ including significant rainfall in parts of Gauteng‚ may leave localised flooding in their wake the South African Weather Service has warned.

A weather watch was issued by the service on Monday morning for five provinces due to experience rainfall.

“Heavy rain leading to localised flooding is expected in the North West province (except in the north-east)‚ the northern and eastern half of the Free State‚ north-eastern Northern Cape‚ extreme southern Gauteng‚ extreme KwaZulu-Natal‚ and the north coast of KwaZulu-Natal‚” it said in a statement.

Early on Monday morning it said that heavy rains had been observed in Tosca‚ Vryburg‚ Pilanesberg‚ Rustenburg‚ Hartbeespoort‚ Brits and Swartruggens in the North West and Pretoria.

There will be a slight lift in rain in parts of Gauteng later on Monday morning‚ with more rainfall in the province expected on Tuesday.
