Two people scored an own goal when they helped burgle a policeman’s home in Cape Town.

The crime led police investigators to their accomplices and directly to their stash of stolen goods – and a prohibited firearm.

The two‚ a woman of 36 and a man of 44‚ will appear at the Khayelitsha Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.

Six people broke into the home of a police officer attached to the Stabilisation Unit on Thursday last week. Personal items‚ including a laptop and two police uniforms‚ were stolen.

An investigation led police to four men who were promptly arrested in Khayelitsha where a laptop‚ watches‚ a gaming console and police uniforms were recovered.

Two more suspects – the man and woman – were arrested on Monday after being found in possession of a 7.65mm pistol‚ with its serial number removed‚ a magazine‚ seven rounds of ammunition‚ two pairs of handcuffs and an electricity and airtime dispenser.
