A manhunt is under way for suspects who attempted a cash-in-transit heist in Cape Town.

The suspects fled the Sunningdale petrol station after trying to rob an armoured vehicle transporting cash.

One of the suspects was seriously injured after a member of the security company rammed into him. At least three shots were fired by the suspects.

Between four and six suspects then fled the scene in a Ford Figo.

Police on the scene said the number plates on the vehicle were falsified and it had been hijacked this weekend.

The vehicle stopped outside the Benguela Beach residential complex.

Two suspects then fled in a red Audi 2‚ while the rest entered the housing complex. Heavily armed police and security companies with an assortment of assault rifles are searching each house door to door.

Neighbourhood watch members and other police officers are patrolling the dunes outside the complex.
