A state prosecutor and his wife have been arrested by the Hawks’ Serious Corruption unit for alleged corruption.

The couple were apprehended on Saturday.

Hawks spokesman Captain Ndivhuwo Mulamu said it was alleged that the prosecutor demanded R6‚000 from two suspects facing charges of unlicensed firearms at the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court for him to make the charges disappear.

“The matter was then reported at the Hawks’ offices and an entrapment operation was conducted. Both the suspects were arrested at a restaurant in Maponya Mall on Saturday in possession of the entrapment money brought by the alleged suspects‚” Maluma said.

He added that the duo‚ aged 33 and 38‚ will appear before the Protea Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday on charges of corruption.
