Omar, the maine coon, isn't an average puss. He is twice as big as the dog he lives with and he is crushingly heavy when he reclines on the chest of a human.

He weighs 14kg - the average cat weighs between 3.5kg and 4.5kg - and his favourite food is raw kangaroo meat. The massive puss went viral after being featured on the Cats of Instagram account, which has more than 8million followers.

His owner Stephy Hirst, from Melbourne, was contacted by Guinness World Records, which said he might be the longest cat in the world. The record is held by a UK maine coon measuring 118.33cm - but Hirst said Omar is 120cm long.

"We thought he might be [the longest cat in the world] but we hadn't done anything about it because he might not be fully grown yet," Hirst told The Herald Sun.

Hirst and partner Rowan Lawrence adopted Omar as a kitten. Hirst said: " [Omar] was tiny when we got him but then he just started growing and was 10kg at one year old."

On a typical day Omar wakes to a breakfast of kibble and naps outside on the trampoline. He lazes around the house and on his humans. But he has to be locked out of the bedroom because he takes up too much room and wants to be cuddled all night.
