Two teenagers in Mpumalanga and a diver in the Western Cape drowned after experiencing difficulties on Thursday.

The National Sea Rescue Institute's (NSRI) Travis Clack said the bodies of two Ermelo youths, aged 16 and 18, were found after a search at 5pm on Thursday. They had been swimming in a body of water near the Douglas Dam.

In Yzerfontein in the Western Cape, the NSRI was called out at 6.25pm after a diver said his partner had gone missing.

The man, in his 60s and from Melkbosstrand, was diving near Yzerfontein’s Schaapen Island, said Junre Marais, NSRI Yzerfontein station commander. His body was found by his dive partner on rocks on the shoreline.

The police have opened inquest dockets.
