A cluster of moderate earthquakes near the U.S.-Mexico border is continuing to rattle southern California one week after a magnitude 7.2 quake slammed the area.

The U.S. Geological Survey says a magnitude 4.4 earthquake struck, about 11 miles (18 kilometres) west of downtown Calexico. Six other quakes above magnitude 3.0 were also reported in a three-hour period.

No damage or injuries have been reported.

Scientists say the increased seismic activity is normal following the magnitude 7.2 earthquake. Officials say the Easter quake killed two people and caused an estimated $100 million in damage to California alone.
