A widower has won a $6million (R 65.16 million) lawsuit against three airlines who barred his late wife from boarding their planes because she was 'too fat' to fly.

According to the Daily Mail, Vilma Soltesz, who was 407lb (184.612Kg’), died at the couple's holiday home in Hungary after she was not allowed to fly back to New York City by Delta, KLM or Lufthansa in 2012.

Her husband Janos Soltesz, 57, settled his wrongful death suit last month for an undisclosed amount.

The couple initially tried Dutch airline KLM, but the seats were broken on the plane and Vilma couldn't safely get into them. They were then told they could get a Delta Airlines flight from Prague, but the company did not have the proper wheelchair.

Finally an attempt to board a Lufthansa flight was aborted when the captain asked them to leave the plane because other passengers had connections and they couldn't afford a delay

Vilma Soltesz eventually died,  nine days after she was supposed to have seen her doctor in New York.
