A man has taken to walking around Essex wearing a black gimp suit, with the aim of raising money for a mental health charity.

Gimp Man, as he has become known, has apparently raised £850.43 since he started visiting town centres in June of 2013 according to his JustGiving page.

Apparently he gives £1 to Colchester Mind every time someone posts a photo with him to his Facebook page, which has more than 2,000 likes.

“If you see me, please stop for a chat, I don't bite!” The Gimp Man said.

“Most people are very welcoming when I tell them what it's all about,” he told the BBC. “I don't go round to scare the life out of people.

"I've been called a nutter before, but I don't react to comments like that."

"I'm adult enough to realise people look at the negatives in everything,”

“But people are a lot more open minded nowadays.

“And at the end of the day, you can walk along the beach and see a lot more than I'm exposing.”

That said, according to the UK's Independent he hasn't told his wife and kids about his hobby.
