A baby delivered inside the lavatory of an Indian train slipped through the toilet bowl to fall on the rail tracks but survived, news reports said Tuesday.

A pregnant woman travelling with her family in the north-western state of Rajasthan had labour pains on the train, the Nai Dunia newspaper said.

The 22-year-old went to the toilet and delivered a baby boy, after which she fell unconscious, the report said.

The train was stationary at the time of the delivery but had moved to Hanumangarh town some 13 kilometres away by the time her relatives found her lying unconscious and summoned help.

The baby was on the tracks for hours, was spotted by the guard of a nearby warehouse who heard it crying, the IANS news agency reported.

The baby was rescued and taken to hospital where he was reunited with his mother.
