US soldiers and American contractors sexually abused at least 54 children in Colombia between 2003 and 2007, according to a historic document on the country’s conflict.
According to Colombia Reports, Colombia's government and the leftist rebel group FARC commissioned an 800 page report to figure out who was responsible for the 7 million victims in the armed conflict between the two.
Renan Vega of the Pedagogic University in Bogota focused on the US' roll in the conflict, and told the newspaper of one instance in 2004, in which 53 underage girls were taken from the village of Melgar were taken and abused by military contractors who filmed it as porn.
Another case involved US sergeant Michael J. Coen and defense contractor Cesar Ruiz, who drugged and raped a 12-year-old in 2007.
The contractors and soldiers involved in both cases were covered by immunity clauses in bilateral agreements, and thus didn't have to fear prosecution.
