Mampara of the week: Bheki Cele

Sunday Times | 27 May, 2012 00:16

Get out of Dodge, cowboy

APPARENTLY Bheki Cele really doesn't get the message that he is incapable of leading the police force.

First, his dodgy lease deals in Pretoria and Durban were comprehensively exposed by this newspaper over several weeks.

Cele said we were out to get him and he was innocent.

Then the public protector spent months investigating the matter before concluding that we got it right and Cele was guilty of maladministration. Still Cele denied guilt.

Now a board headed by a judge has produced a 114-page report which proves comprehensively that Cele was dishonest and guilty of breaking several administrative regulations.

Has he finally admitted guilt? Not Cele.

He has now written to President Jacob Zuma protesting his innocence and claiming that he is the answer to fighting crime. Time to move on, Mampara.
