The City of Johannesburg can be well-run and deliver basic services to all citizens if the DA is elected into power, the party's mayoral candidate said.

"This election is about service delivery.... It starts with an administration that regards the needs of... the city's residents as its most important responsibility," Mmusi Maimane told a briefing in Braamfontein, Johannesburg.

The DA had a three-pronged approach which would enforce anti-corruption measures through accountability, employ skilled people into appropriate positions and turn around the city's financial management, he said.

"The billing crisis is a key priority.... Every other thing is immaterial if this cannot be addressed," Maimane said ahead of the May 18 local government election.
