City of Cape Town officials have apparently refused to comment on the arrest of Mayor Patricia De Lille's husband at the weekend for reckless and negligent driving, according to a report on Monday.
The Cape Argus reported that De Lille's husband Edwin was arrested on Friday in Pinelands, with the Mayor explaining he had had a stroke.
The newspaper submitted questions to city officials who usually comment on traffic violations. They apparently forwarded the query to De Lille's spokesman Solly Malatsi.
The mayor responded by saying: "I thank the police for stopping under that health condition and the law must take its course. All evidence about his health condition will be put before the court and we must respect the independence of the courts."
