Discontentment is not a sign of division in the African National Congress, Public Enterprises Minister Malusi Gigaba said on Tuesday.

"There is no division in the ANC... Ill-discipline is not a sign of discontent, it is a sign of ill-discipline, we deal with it. You can never equate the two," he said.

"Ill-discipline belongs in the dustbin and discontent is a natural movement because any movement that is alive... must contain those necessary tensions between those who believe you can do better and those who are happy with what you have."

He said the tensions would ensure balance within the party. Gigaba said the ANC needed to deal with various problems facing it.

Gigaba said leadership of the ANC was a democratic process and he was happy to serve the party wherever he was deployed.

The ANC is holding its national elective conference in Mangaung next month.
