ANCYL supporters gather for festival

Hundreds of ANC Youth League supporters gathered at Makhulong stadium in Tembisa for a elections festival on Saturday.

There were less than 3000 people inside the stadium just before 11 am.

The stadium is just a kilometre away from the Mahlareng stadium where the Economic Freedom Fighters is scheduled to launch its election manifesto.

"I went past Mehlareng and walked proudly wearing my ANC T-shirt, Malema should know that Tembisa loves the ANC," said Paul Kgomo, 32, who brought his son along.

The township was turned into a sea of yellow and red as members of the two parties made their way to their respective venues in cars, buses and on foot.

Yellow ANC T-shirts and water were distributed to people seated inside the stadium.

The party's bikers club and the Mini-Cooper brigade roared into the stadium, which resulted in ululations from people in the streets and houses across from the venue.

Police closed off routes near Makhulong, and only pedestrians were allowed through.

Hawkers lined the streets, selling food and African National Congress memorabilia.

Well-known musicians such as Uhuru, DJs Shimza, Sbu, Black Coffee are billed to entertain the crowds.

Public Enterprises Minister Malusi Gigaba, Sports Minister Fikile Mbalula and Young Communist League of SA secretary Buti Manamela are expected to address ANCYL supporters.
