Four people were on Thursday sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of former ANC regional secretary Mosimaneotsile David Chika, North West police said.

The North Gauteng High Court sitting in Stilfontein sentenced Jeffrey Letuka, William Malefo, Happy Kadi and Sehlangu Sikhakhane to life imprisonment for murder, and eight years' imprisonment for conspiracy to commit murder, said Brigadier Thulani Ngubane.

Papiekie Babuile was sentenced to eight years for conspiracy to commit murder and 12 years' imprisonment for murder, while Joseph Molebatsi got eight years for conspiracy to commit murder and 15 years' imprisonment for murder.

The court acquitted Sehlangu Sikhakhane on a charge of conspiracy to commit murder.

Chika was shot and killed at his house in Alabama, Klerksdorp on December 14, 2012.
