The DA is losing black voters to Julius Malema's Economic Freedom Fighters, according to a report.

Beeld newspaper reported on Wednesday that this is according to Democratic Alliance Western Cape leader Theuns Botha.

"Did you know that the EFF has attracted most of its voters from the DA?" he was quoted as saying in the Afrikaans daily.

He was speaking to businessmen in Bellville, Cape Town, on Tuesday.

Botha reportedly said the DA's research showed that many black people who had started to support the DA would now instead vote for the EFF.

He expressed concern that the EFF could determine the outcome of the May 7 elections in Gauteng, saying the DA and the ANC would have to look after each other.

"Can we allow that Julius Malema governs Gauteng?" he asked.
