Power supply will not be restored to Edenvale, on the East Rand, until Wednesday evening, Eskom said.

"A cable is faulty and needs to be replaced, but given the magnitude of the problem, we are unfortunately not going to be able to restore power in the area today," Eskom spokeswoman Reneiloe Semenya said on Tuesday.

The Edenvale CBD, Edenvale, Eastleigh, Eastleigh Ridge, Glendower, and Dowerglen had been without power since 4.30am on Tuesday when a cable tripped.

Eskom and Ekhuruleni municipality's technical teams were working on the problem.

"For areas without power supply, treat all electric points as live. We don't want to experience any incidents as a result of power coming back earlier than expected."
