EFF leader, Julius Malema has suggested that he was actually defending a black cashier from the 'racist' actions of a white man.

Malema has come under fire after CCTV footage of him in an altercation with a Steers patron, Cassie Moller went viral today. Moller opened a case with the police in which he detailed his experience with Malema.

While Malema has not commented outright, he took to Twitter to retweet comments from followers, seemingly telling his side of the story.

Malema retweeted two posts from people who added their voice to the issue by tweeting: "It's true at times don't believe everything you read, reading about @Julius_S_Malema slapping someone & the CCTV tells a different story."

The EFF commander in chief also retweeted a response from a follower which read: "@mbanjwax that is lazy reporting. The article should read: @Julius_S_Malema defends cashiers from a racist bully."

The incident took place on August 6 in Tzaneen, Limpopo. Malema and his posse reacted to Moller after Moller was summoned by his wife.

The CCTV footage depicts Moller leaning over the table and apparently saying something to the cashier. Malema later storms in and wags his fingers in Moller's face while his friends end up forcefully pushing Moller out of the store.
