Vavi‚ Jim must form their own federation: Malema

EFF leader Julius Malema has called on expelled Cosatu general secretary Zwelinzima Vavi and Numsa boss Irvin Jim to “go out and form their own labour federation that will fight for workers rights”. Malema was addressing his supporters at their May Day rally in Port Elizabeth on Friday afternoon.Ending off his week long visit to Nelson Mandela Bay‚ which he spent canvassing for votes ahead of next year's municipal elections‚ Malema told his supporters that Vavi and Jim were the "best leaders of the workers"."I want to say to Irvin Jim and Vavi‚ they must stop wasting time. Let them fight for the workers and form a big union for the workers. We have workers in the EFF who are looking for you."They are wasting their time man. They are talking past each other. As long as they don't start a political party they are fine because the political party for workers is here with the EFF‚" Malema told a crowd of about 6 500 supporters."They must form a union and we will give them workers‚ and they must be a federation that is not aligned to any political party‚ but aligned to workers alone."They must be a federation that doesn't go around telling workers who to vote for. Workers are not dumb‚ they will make their own choices‚ they can think for themselves."We don't want them to tell workers to vote for the EFF. The EFF must earn the vote of the workers‚" he said to a loud applause. He said the EFF was not going to form a labour federation."We trust Vavi and Jim. We know that they are the best leaders of workers. We believe in their cause." Malema said Vavi was wasting his time telling journalists that he was still the general secretary of Cosatu."This man is not like Malema. When Malema got expelled‚ he moved on. Now‚ Vavi must just go and demonstrate to those ANC criminals that there is life outside of the ANC."We are living proof. They used to say that it's cold outside of the ANC. But here we are living proof it's hot; we are actually soaking. "How can we be cold when we are surrounded by the masses? It's so nice because we have no problems of trying to defend swimming pools."So‚ Vavi must take it from the EFF that there's life after Cosatu‚ and we say to him and Jim‚ they must stop wasting our time. They must come together and form an independent federation that will bring back the interests of the workers and fight the white capital monopoly.Malema received a hero’s welcome at all the events and meetings he attended this week. The crowd at the Motherwell NU1 cricket stadium on Friday‚ each donning red 'Vote EFF' T-shirts and berets‚ chanted "Juju! Juju! Juju" as he entered the large tent to deliver his Workers' Day address. He spoke strongly against labour brokers‚ calling for their abolishment as well as for more money for police‚ teachers and nurses. He once again called for the minimum wage to be raised to R4 500 for all workers.About his visit to the metro‚ Malema said he was going to take over Mandela Bay while the ANC were "busy sleeping"."By the time they wake up‚ we'll be here".Next year's local government elections are set to be the most hotly contested elections‚ with several political parties throwing their hats into the ring‚ all itching to take the metro away from the ANC.The DA‚ United Front and now EFF‚ have all made it clear that they will be pulling out all the stops to win the electorate over from the ANC. – RDM News Wire, The Herald..
