Yes‚ the highest office in the land‚ has turned to “bird of mouth” to advertise a number of jobs on Twitter. #The Presidency is hiring. In doing so they have joined a global trend that is increasingly using social media to advertise jobs and recruit personnel.“South Africans are more inclined to use Twitter and Facebook to advertise jobs‚ developed countries like UK are using LinkedIn‚” explained Quest’s managing marketing executive Khomi Makhubele.Facebook and Twitter‚ explained Makhubele‚ are unique in that they target those who are not actively looking for a job.“More and more people are spending time on social media‚ and on Facebook we are seeing more boosted advertising‚ which is paid for and is targeting young people‚” he said. The jobs being advertised on the @PresidencyZA Twitter account are for a “Senior Transport Manager” and an “Assistant Director: Employee Health And Wellness.SA citizens only”.But while the Presidency might have embraced Twitter as a recruitment tool‚ it appears those in the top strata of the organisation are still getting a handle on how to use it.President Jacob Zuma (@SAPresident) last tweeted in October 2013‚ and he has only tweeted 200 times. In comparison‚ US President Barack Obama has 13400 tweets‚ although most are written by his staff.Number One's former spin doctor Mac Maharaj doesn't even have a verified account and as for the deputy president Cyril Ramaphosa‚ those tweets aren't his. There is a disclaimer on his account saying his communications team writes his tweets. ..
