South African Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa returned from Lesotho on Wednesday after meeting with King Letsie III‚ and holding talks with Lesotho Prime Minister Phakalitha Mosisili.

Ramaphosa was dispatched to Lesotho in an attempt to facilitate an end to a political crisis in the mountain kingdom‚ which worsened following the killing of the former commander of the Lesotho Defence Force‚ Maaparankoe Mahao.

The Presidency said the deputy president had extended the invitation of President Jacob Zuma to Mosisili to attend the forthcoming Southern African Development Community (SADC) Double Troika Summit of Heads of State scheduled to be held in Pretoria later this week.

Ramaphosa had also conveyed the response of Zuma to Mosisili’s request for SADC to provide investigators to assist in the Mahao murder investigation.

“In this regard‚ SADC member states Zimbabwe and Namibia will provide experts to assist in the investigation‚” the Presidency said.

Two South African pathologists would be made available to assist Lesotho and the family of Mahao during the post-mortem process.

The deputy president was expected to present his facilitation report on Lesotho‚ including reflections of the proposed constitutional and security sector reforms‚ to SADC later this week.
