Education crisis all Blade's fault‚ says DA

Minister of Higher Education and Training Blade Nzimande has come under fire for comments he made reflecting that the private sector should fund the shortfall in the tertiary education sector. Democratic Alliance shadow minister for education Belinda Bozzoli said the plan was “nothing more than a thinly veiled attempt to shift blame away from his and the ANC’s inaction in addressing the crisis that has swept our tertiary institutions and negatively affected our students”.In a statement released on Monday‚ Bozzoli said government inaction was likely to lead to eight universities facing bankruptcy.“The simple truth is that there is money that can be used if the ANC and Minister Nzimande got their priorities right. This should have happened several years ago when the Minister was warned of the impending crisis that now threatens to see eight universities bankrupt. This disastrous inaction will only hurt the students who desperately need education‚” said Bozzoli.Nzimande will appear before the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Higher Education on Wednesday‚ where‚ Bozzoli said‚ he would have to answer a series of questions on how the eight universities have got to the state they are in.“The Minister’s inaction on a matter of such importance for our country demonstrates that he is not serious about the office he holds‚ and to ensuring that poor‚ qualifying students are provided the support they need to pursue a better future‚” Bozzoli concluded...
