“Battling along. It’s a very difficult time.” These were the words of former Democratic Alliance MP and shadow police minister Dianne Kohler Barnard after she was axed last week.

In an SMS to The Witness on Sunday, Kohler Barnard said she was “battling along” when asked about her general well-being.

“It’s a very difficult time,” she said afterwards.

She would not make any further comments, however, it is believed Kohler Barnard will appeal the party’s decision.

Kohler Barnard, who has refrained from the media spotlight since she was condemned for a Facebook post in September, had had her membership with the DA terminated on Friday.

The decision was made by the party’s Federal Executive after an almost month-long internal disciplinary process over the sharing of a Facebook post that called for the return of apartheid era leader PW Botha.

Former DA KZN leader Sizwe Mchunu described Barnard as his friend, but did not wish to comment any further on the matter.
