Zuma in Angola to 're-affirm fraternal relations'

The purpose of President Jacob Zuma’s visit to Angola on Wednesday is twofold: to celebrate its 40th anniversary of independence‚ and “most importantly…to re-affirm the historical and fraternal relations” between that country and South Africa. “The relations between the two counties were cemented during the years of liberation struggle against colonialism and apartheid when Angola played a significant role in support of the fight against apartheid‚” a Presidency statement said.This historical relationship is “evidenced…in the growing trade co-operation” with “South African imports from Angola amounting to R21.8-billion in 2014 while exported goods (were) worth about R2.2-billion”. No mention has made‚ however‚ of the two countries’ imminent clash on the football field in a crucial 2018 World Cup qualifier in Benquela on Friday...
