The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) celebrated its second anniversary at the Olympia Park stadium in Rustenburg, North West yesterday.

Party leader Julius Malema told the throngs of his supporters at the celebrations that the party wanted Johannesburg, Ekurhuleni and Durban municipalities, giving no clue about how they would secure the major metros.

According to City Press, Malema instructed EFF members to occupy every ward in the country and recruit a minimum of 500 people in each one.

He mentioned the criteria for councillors – those who are working hard in their communities and leading the demand for essential services and jobs.

“Councillors must reside with the people they lead. We will offer credible leaders because EFF is the only one with credible leaders,” Malema said.

Malema told EFF supporters how different their lives would be if the EFF managed to unseat the ANC in some of the major metros, stating that ordinary people would get jobs, particularly the youth, and not just a select few friends of politicians.

“We must take over the municipalities because that is the only way that they will stop. They continue to be arrogant because you continue to vote for them. That arrogance can only be undermined by taking Johannesburg metro away from them,” he said.
