DA to lay charges against former Prasa CEO

The Democratic Alliance (DA) will on Thursday‚ as the Congress of the People (Cope) did a day earlier‚ lay criminal charges against axed Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (Prasa) group CEO Lucky Montana. This‚ the party said‚ was “for his violation of various laws and regulations during his tenure at the helm of the public enterprise”.“Prasa‚ under the leadership of Montana‚ knowingly contravened the Public Finance Management Act and the Supply Chain Management policies of PRASA‚ and has acted illicitly and selfishly at the taxpayers’ expense‚” the DA statement said.The case was to be opened at the Cape Town Police Station by party leader Mmusi Maimane.Cope on Wednesday laid a “criminal charge of corruption and fraud” at Pretoria’s Brooklyn Police Station based on the Public Protector’s findings that “tenders worth more than R2.8 billion were awarded improperly”.“The reported maladministration and impropriety took place while Montana was the CEO. The Public Protector found that he approved these transactions or was instrumental in approving them‚” Cope’s statement read.The Party said it “requests the South-African Police Service to utilise the Public Protector's report as a basis for investigating all corrupt and fraudulent activities that Montana committed during his term as CEO of Prasa”.Montana has indicated that he will ask a court to review the Public Protector’s findings...
