The Congress of the People (Cope) on Friday weighed in who would “warm the presidential seat in 2019”‚ saying neither of ruling party’s current top-tipped pair would be the one to do so. Spokesperson Dennis Bloem said Cope “believes that the next President of South Africa could very well be someone other than Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma or Cyril Ramaphosa”.This‚ Bloom ventured‚ is because‚ “by 2019‚ South Africans will have had 25 years of African National Congress (ANC) government and the ruling party will have exhausted all its excuses for not delivering the promised transformation and job creation”. “Support for the tripartite alliance” would be eroded further by the “circus that is going on in parliament and the prolonged stagnancy of the economy will continue to erode”‚ he said.On the former‚ Bloom took issue with President Jacob Zuma’s propensity to find National Assembly proceedings humorous‚ saying he “laughs heartily and often‚ in Parliament‚ as the country’s woes deepen”.“People need answers‚ not comic relief‚” he said.On financial issues‚ Bloom said the ANC “has lived large at the expense of taxpayers and any moves to replenish the fiscus with new taxes will lead to a revolt and loss of political support”.“University students are agitated and people at large have waited in vain for the promised transformation. Empty promises will have no currency in the future‚” he predicted. Bloom said Cope would continue with its push for “greater cohesion within opposition parties in order to provide South Africa with a credible alternative to the ruling party”‚ and was busy “talking to community organisations and other formations to examine new possibilities in the political terrain”...
