Cosatu would have to give us some money to cut funding: Corruption Watch

Corruption Watch says that apart from a seed grant received from Cosatu to help set up the corruption watchdog it has received no further funding from the trade union federation. Corruption Watch issued a statement on Thursday in response to comments made by the Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union (Popcru) at the Cosatu Congress currently under way in Midrand‚ saying it wished to set the record straight.“These comments purported to terminate Cosatu’s financial support for Corruption Watch and alleged that Corruption Watch’s activities ‘delegitimised’ the state‚” the watchdog said.It said its board had noted that "apart from a seed grant received in 2011 to help set up Corruption Watch‚ there has been no subsequent financial support from Cosatu‚ and all funding sources were available for scrutiny on the website: www.corruptionwatch.org.za".“The CW board finds it regrettable that Popcru should view efforts to engage the public in combating corruption as contrary to the interests of the state. However‚ such statements will not deter us from continuing our work‚ which we consider to be important for the country and all who live in it‚” said chairperson Archbishop Njongonkulu Ndungane...
