Mbete to receive King Legacy Award

The Speaker of the National Assembly‚ Baleka Mbete‚ has been elected to be the recipient of the 2016 King Legacy Award‚ Parliament announced on Thursday.

In tribute to the legacy of Dr Martin Luther King’s historical work at home and abroad‚ each year the Committee recognises the distinguished leadership and contributions of individuals who have positively impacted the global community.

Mbete will travel to Washington DC to personally receive the King Legacy Award for International Service award. The ceremony will take place in the US capital on Sunday.

The Annual International Salute of the Life and Legacy of Martin Luther King Jr has been held annually since 1992. This year marks the Silver (25 years) Anniversary of the International Salute.

Previous recipients of the award include Sheila Sisulu‚ Kofi Annan and Ambassador Adefuye of Nigeria.
