ANC‚ DA and IFP retain wards in local by-elections

The African National Congress‚ the Democratic Alliance and the Inkatha Freedom Party all retained their wards in nine by-elections contested in five provinces on Wednesday. Voter turnout varied between 26.36% and 53.56% with an average of 38.93%‚ the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) said. Two wards were uncontested.The ANC retained Ward 4 in the Phumelela [Vrede] Municipality and Ward 1 in the Ngwathe [Parys] Municipality in the Free State; Ward 10 in the Ingwe [Creighton] Municipality in Kwazulu-Natal; and Ward 28 in the Moretele [Makapanstad] Municipality in North West.The DA retained Ward 5 in the Camdeboo [Graaff-Reinet] Municipality in the Eastern Cape; Ward 42 in the Tshwane Metro [Pretoria] in Gauteng; and Ward 16 in the Rustenburg [Rustenburg] Municipality in North West.Ward 10 in the Indaka [Waaihoek] and Ward 15 in the Abaqulusi [Vryheid] municipalities in Kwazulu-Natal were retained by the IFP...
