KZN MEC calls for restraint after murder of councillor

KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport‚ Community Safety and Liaison Willies Mchunu has called for restraint from hostel dwellers after the murder of an eThekwini ANC councillor‚ Ms Zodwa Sibiya‚ at the Glebelands Hostel. He said Sibiya had been shot dead at the hostel on Saturday night but that details were still sketchy. Condemning the attack‚ Mchunu said police had been directed to work around the clock to bring her killers to book.He urged hostel dwellers to work with the police to ensure that her Sibiya’s killers were caught.“We are really shocked at this callous murder and urge anyone who might have information as to who is responsible for this to immediately contact the police and those in authority‚” he said.He said this latest murder‚ coming as the provincial government had resolved to do everything possible to bring an end to the conflict at Glebelands‚ was a major setback.“Just last week the KwaZulu-Natal Executive Council directed that a special task team‚ made up of a number of departments‚ be assembled to work with hostel inmates‚ police‚ eThekwini Metro and the Department of Community Safety and Liaison to bring an end to this conflict.“Already our teams are active on the ground at the hostel working frantically to‚ once again‚ bring the warring factions to table and restart the stalled peace talks‚” said Mchunu...
