Full statement by the Congress of South African Trade Unions Free State provincial secretary‚ Monyatso oa Mahlatsi “While sitting on the stands on the eastern side of the huge Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium and with the sun coming down on the comrades sitting where the shade of the huge grandstands could not reach‚ one could not fail to note the huge ANC Ekurhuleni Region flag on the south side of the stadium.“Complementing the flag was a large team of comrades waving huge and colourful black green and gold ANC flags and singing as if they were defying the sun which was coming unforgivably down at them.“As many other cadres moved to places which had some shelter in the stadium‚ the ‘Ekurhuleni warriors’ withstood their ground and continued singing and waving their flags whenever an opportunity presented itself right through the programme. What a great sign of commitment to the cause! Though none of us mentioned it‚ their singing was so infectious that in the end we ended up standing up and signing along with them.“Little did we know that‚ that was to be the last revolutionary dance for some of our fellow comrades and less did we know that on their way back some would bear scars both emotionally and physically brought upon by the bus accident around Ventersburg in the Free State.“We can only imagine the shock which their families would and continue to go through as they learn about the passing of their loved ones.“Their sacrifice and commitments to taking the National Democratic Revolution forward and doing the best to ensure that their Revolutionary Movement‚ the ANC prepares itself fully for the coming local government elections would remain with us forever!“We relay our heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and may their souls rest in peace.“We wish a speedy recovery for those with both physical and emotional scars and hope they will all be back to their self again.“We will await the report of the accident which would then inform our next step in making our contribution towards road safety throughout our province.”..
