The Democratic Alliance has criticised Nelson Mandela Bay mayor Danny Jordaan’s appointment of former 2010 World Cup security boss Linda Mti as the metro’s safety and security head‚ saying it shows the prioritisation of ANC cadres and patronage for friends.

Mti’s appointment is still subject to approval by provincial local government MEC Fikile Xasa.

A former Commissioner of Correctional Services‚ Mti is still under investigation by the Hawks in connection with alleged fraud linked to about R2-billion worth of tenders awarded to the Bosasa group between 2004 and 2006‚ while he was still with Correctional Services.
