Municipal Demarcation Board free from political interference‚ chair says
The chairperson of the Municipal Demarcation Board (MDB) said South Africa's current challenges are as a result of historical social engineering. "Some of the challenges the country grapples with were spatially engineered. That includes poverty‚ inequality and unemployment‚" Jane Thupana said.She was speaking on Thursday in Boksburg‚ east of Johannesburg‚ on the opening day of the board's Demarcation and Spatial Transformation conference‚ which will look at challenges brought about by the merging of municipalities.Thupana took the opportunity to reiterate that the MDB was an independent organisation that was bound by law and free from political interference."The board's functions are restricted solely within the confines of the law."She said the board needed to accept responsibility for misunderstandings related to how it carried out its work and arrived at its decisions.The MDB has previously been accused of allowing itself to be dictated to by the African National Congress-led government. – TMG Digital/The Times..
