“Who cares?” That’s how Western Cape Premier Helen Zille reacted to the prospect of her naked body hanging on Kenny Kunene’s bedroom wall. The former inmate-turned-“Sushi King” remained a Twitter trend on Friday after his self-publicised purchase of a painting depicting three senior members of the Democratic Alliance (DA) in their birthday suits.Kunene on Thursday posted a photo of himself behind the image saying: “I am now a proud owner of this master piece. Powerful story telling through art...Thanks to the fearless Artist...”The painting‚ by Iven Amali‚ portrays Zille‚ DA leader Mmusi Maimane and what appears to be the DA's federal executive chairperson James Selfe with their private parts exposed. Maimane is pulling a cart carrying the other two‚ the words “modern slavery” are hanging from the cart.Maimane's spokesperson Mabine Seabe had on Thursday brushed the painting off‚ saying it is of little consequence to the party.“It’s a crude‚ disgusting painting that belongs in a dustbin and not on display. Kenny Kunene is trying to gain some kind of publicity through someone who is relevant and trying to bring change to South Africa.”Zille appeared to take a similar stance when questioned on Twitter by Oswin Jacobs ‏@Ozzy_Jacobs: “@helenzille surely this was arranged rather than freedom of expression....”She responded simply:@helenzille surely this was arranged rather than freedom of expression.... https://t.co/nuegP4BEB8— Oswin Jacobs (@Ozzy_Jacobs) July 29, 2016async While she didn’t‚ some Twitter users did‚ like Lazola Rusi ‏@LazzRusi who tweeted: “Kenny Kunene is an attention seeker.”Miss Adams ‏@LittleMsMercy suggested the extent Kunene would go to for publicity:Next Kenny Kunene will draw a naked painting of himself and share it on social media for relevance sake.— Miss Adams (@LittleMsMercy) July 29, 2016async ronny ledwaba ‏@RonnyLedwaba had a similar impression: “@eNCA @kenny kunene is just trying to be relevant‚he just want to be seen on tv”.TheTrillestTumi ‏@TumediTreezy took it further‚ saying the controversial businessman has issues: “@Boity_Rams Kenny Kunene needs serious psychological help‚ he is too old to be exposing & disrespecting other people just to draw attention.”@Boity_Rams Kenny Kunene needs serious psychological help, he is too old to be exposing & disrespecting other people just to draw attention.— TheTrillestTumi (@TumediTreezy) July 29, 2016async Khalixx_76 ‏@Khalixx76 said the best reaction from the opposition party would be no reaction at all: “DA must not give Kenny Kunene any airtime. That what he is looking for.”a.k.a ‏@manvanaap compared Kunene’s purchase with another recent controversial artwork: Ayanda Mabulu’s painting depicting President Jacob Zuma licking the behind of one of the Gupta brothers‚ a naked Atul‚ in an aircraft cockpit‚ with an African National Congress flag hanging to the side.He tweeted: “Zupta painting reflects corruption + anc mismanagement we face every day. Kenny kunene DA painting reflect political propaganda‚ not truth..”...
