The new condoms are designed for "maximum pleasure and maximum protection". Aside from being quieter, Ramaphosa highlighted that the condoms also come in fruity flavours like grape or apple.

According to the UNFPA the condoms were launched in June, replacing the old "Choice" brand the government had been supplying for 10 years.

"It is estimated that nearly 150,000 young people between 15-24 years acquire HIV and 72,000 adolescent females give birth annually, representing the magnitude of the problem in South Africa," The UNFPA reported.
