Makhura meets metro mayors

Gauteng Premier David Makhura has just held his first one-on-one meeting with the province's metro mayors after the August local government elections. On Wednesday‚ Makhura met first with the executive mayor of the City of Johannesburg‚ Herman Mashaba‚ followed by the mayor of Ekurhuleni‚ Mzwandile Masina. "The meetings were productive‚ cordial and have paved the way for a close collaborative and cooperative relationship between the cities and the province‚" said Makhura's spokesperson Phumla Sekhonyane. Topics of discussion included economic collaboration‚ inner city regeneration projects‚ housing collaboration‚ health and public transport.The premier could not meet Tshwane mayor Solly Msimanga as he was still engaged in the meeting with cooperative governance MEC Paul Mashatile following a council meeting that turned violent on Tuesday.Mashatile met leaders of political parties in the Tshwane council to find solutions to what could be described as the one of the most shameful days in the council chamber of the country's capital. - TMG Digital..
