Joel Netshitenzhe‚ a member of the African National Congress (ANC) national executive committee (NEC) and executive director of the Mapungubwe Institute for Strategic Reflection‚ slated the lack of leadership in his party and in society.

Addressing the 2016 ABSIP Financial Service Conference in Sandton on Tuesday‚ Netshitenzhe asked: “What do we do in a situation in which the state is unable to give leadership?

“Unlike the developmental state to which we aspire‚ South Africa today not only lacks the pilot from which economic leadership should be issued‚ we have a government that communicates a sense of weakness and confusion.”

Netshitenzhe is the latest senior ANC member to speak out about the increasing unhappiness with the party’s leadership. “Given this reality‚ should society wallow in tears of dejection or should the various sectors‚ business‚ workers and religious leaders‚ youth and women‚ should these various sectors not act in unison to pursue the common interest for society?” he asked.

“In my view‚ we shall not only strengthen forces in government which are genuinely interested in advancing social interests‚ but we will also narrow the space for the scoundrels who depend on state capture for their success.

“In other words‚ the chants of yesteryear‚ which was starting to recede in the memory today‚ rings truer than ever before‚ and that chant is the struggle continues.”
