The African National Congress’ deputy leader in the Western Cape‚ Khaya Magaxa‚ will take over the leadership of the party ahead of the upcoming local government elections.

The party’s provincial leader‚ Marius Fransman‚ is awaiting the outcome of an inquiry into allegations of sexual assault of a subordinate‚ while its Western Cape secretary‚ Faiez Jacobs‚ was suspended after being accused of assaulting an ANC staff member.

Magaxa‚ also a South African Communist Party provincial leader‚ told the Uhuru Spirit journal in a 2013 interview that the SACP should lead efforts to consolidate the ANC support in the Western Cape.

This was “because as a party we are better positioned to mobilize and unite the coloureds and African working class for us to win the Western Cape”.
