Cope expects Makhura to deliver on his promise and scrap tolling

The Congress of the People (Cope) expects Gauteng Premier David Makhura “will bite the bullet and announce the complete scrapping of the much hated e-tolls” when State of the Province address on Monday morning.“This will be in line with the promise he made at the beginning of his term of office‚” said Cope’s Dennis Bloem.“The majority of motorists reject this system out of hand. To make things worse the economy is struggling and the poor are taking a severe strain. The e-tolls saga must end.”Bloem said the opposition party also expected feedback on Makhura’s “10 pillars plan that he announced last year”.“The central issue of 2016 is on growing the economy and in creating jobs. We wait to hear how well the ten pillars supported the Gauteng economy and what economic superstructure was built on them.” Other issues Cope will be monitoring are‚ Bloem said:- “What progress was registered in the fight against drugs;- To what extent the administration had got on the top of municipality service deliver grievances; and- What extraordinary measures were being put in place to prop up the collapsing health services in Gauteng.” Bloem described Monday’s address as “acid test for the premier's integrity and capability”...
