Gauteng plans 27 schools to produce ‘highly trained and skilled individuals’

The Gauteng Provincial Government will‚ between 2016 and 2018‚ establish 27 schools of specialisation.This is according to Gauteng Social Transformation Cluster chairperson Qedani Mahlangu‚ who spoke at the Gauteng Provincial Legislature on Thursday.Mahlangu said the schools will be established across the province.“These schools are geared towards responding to the city region’s programme of transformation‚ modernisation and reindustrialisation by producing highly trained and skilled individuals‚” Mahlangu said.The schools will specialise in maths‚ science‚ engineering‚ performing and creative arts‚ and sports.The first school of specialisation was officially launched this month in Soweto.Mahlangu said government is also increasing the number of schools for children with special needs in the townships.“Eight such schools have been opened so far and a further 18 will be opened this year‚” said Mahlangu. – TMG Digital..
