There were reports of a heavy police presence in Tshwane on Monday morning at the scene of a shooting during a tussle over the naming of the African National Congress’ (ANC) mayoral candidate for the metro on Sunday. It is believed that dissatisfaction over the choice of Thoko Didiza to replace Kgosientso Ramokgopa evolved into violence opposite the Tshwane Events Centre where the Tshwane region of the ANC was holding its mayoral elective conference. The ANC announced late on Sunday night that party would make the announcement it is Luthuli House headquarters on the Johannesburg CBD on Monday at 10am.The others were named in Irene‚ Tshwane‚ on Saturday. News 24 quoted current Tshwane mayor Kgosientso Ramokgopa's spokesperson Blessing Manale as saying the “shooting took place…before the arrival of the leadership to give the outcome the final candidates decision. One person was injured and taken to hospital and the metro police and SAPS are on site and no arrests have been made.”Journalists attempting to cover the incident were‚ the National Press Club (NPC) claimed‚ “threatened by the police” when they “were trying to report and take pictures of the alleged shooting” and “equally threatened by ANC supporters/members in ANC-T-shirts not to take photos”.The ruling party had named all its other metro candidates‚ but delayed naming Tshwane’s as it reportedly wanted to refer the decision back to branches in the region. Tshwane trended on Twitter‚ with many seeking to blame the violence on the ANC’s indecision on the mayoral choice:Boitumelo Matshediso‏@matshedisob1 tweeted: @SakinaKamwendo@MYANC needs to clear Tshwane mayoral candidate issue and stop blaming the media, either Thoko Didiza is the candidate or NOT — Boitumelo Matshediso (@matshedisob1) June 20, 2016asyncRenegade ‏@EdS_888 questioned the choice of a candidate from outside Tshwane: So @MYANC took someone from Umlazi and made her a mayor for the people of Tshwane?
