Danny Jordaan‚ the African National Congress (ANC) mayoral candidate in Nelson Mandela Bay‚ says that the Democratic Alliance's (DA’s) victory celebration in the metro was "false‚ misleading and an act of desperation". Jordaan was briefing the media on Sunday‚ following the ANC's loss to the DA in Nelson Mandela Bay‚ saying that the race for the metro is not yet over."There is no clear winner‚" Jordaan said.DA leader Mmusi Maimane said on August 4‚ before the final election results were announced‚ that the DA had taken the most votes in Nelson Mandela Bay‚ snatching it away from the ANC. He said the DA would speak to opposition parties about forming a coalition. After the final results were released the DA again claimed a victory with 46.65% of the vote‚ compared with the ANC's 40.99% - this‚ however‚ is not an outright majority‚ meaning a coalition would need to be formed to govern.Jordaan said on Sunday that the ANC is still in the race and that it is in talks with other parties to form partnerships to rule Nelson Mandela Bay."It is for this reason that the ANC appreciates the cooperation of other parties ... Both the ANC and any other party has the right to govern‚" he said.In Nelson Mandela Bay the DA won 57 seats‚ while the ANC won 50 seats‚ the Economic Freedom Fighters won 6 seats‚ the United Democratic Movement won 2 seats. One seat each went to the African Christian Democratic Party‚ the African Independent Congress‚ the Congress of the People‚ the Patriotic Alliance and the United Front of the Eastern Cape...
