Anti-Zuma protests gather momentum

Protests around the country are gaining momentum. This comes after calls for South Africans to “organise” following President Jacob Zuma’s cabinet reshuffle last week.

Following his sacking‚ former finance minister Pravin Gordhan called on South Africans and civil society to organise themselves.

• Nuke deal to blame for SA political crisis‚ says activistSouth African human rights activist Kumi Naidoo says if President Jacob Zuma had any decency he would resign. 

Now several groups and activists have taken up the call. They got the ball rolling on Monday with the #BlackMonday campaign which saw people from around the country dressed in black.

• Gordhan about to launch new political party‚ says ANCYL in KZNThe ANC Youth League in KwaZulu-Natal believes that axed finance minster Pravin Gordhan is on the brink of launching a new political party. 

Here are some of the other plans:

• Save South Africa‚ plans to occupy Church Square in Pretoria for the whole week. They have set up an “action group” for active citizens and are using #GetInvolved‚ #OccupyChurchSquare and #savesa;
• In Cape Town‚ on Monday evening‚ the SA1st Forum will gather in Ndabeni to discuss a way forward for civil action against President Zuma and his cabinet. Western Cape Cosatu secretary Tony Ehrenreich along with activists Zackie Achmat and Lawson Naidoo are scheduled to speak;.
• On Tuesday‚ sacked deputy finance minister Mcebisi Jonas and Save South Africa convenor‚ Sipho Pityana‚ were expected to address a rally outside the Port Elizabeth City Hall;
• The Democratic Alliance‚ on Friday‚ will be marching to the ANC's Luthuli House headquarters in Johannesburg‚ to voice their grievances and garner support for their motion of no confidence against the President and
• Other opposition political parties are expected to be part of the national shutdown protests expected across the country on Friday.
