Deputy president Cyril Ramaphosa received a rousing welcome on Friday morning when he joined delegates to the ANC Northern Cape elective conference in Colesberg.

Jubilant delegates sang "Leadership Dumela‚ Ramaphosa Dumela" in honour of Ramaphosa‚ who was accompanied by fellow ANC national executive committee members Joel Netshitenzhe‚ Tina Joemat-Pettersson and Enoch Godongwana.

They also sang a popular song‚ indicating that they have been hard at work for Ramaphosa and not sleeping at night.

The Northern Cape‚ although small compared to other provinces‚ could prove important as Ramaphosa's backers hope to elevate him to the ANC presidency in December.

Ramaphosa has just begun his address.
