Police are monitoring a protest by social workers based at the offices of the SA Social Security Agency (Sassa) in Umlazi‚ Durban‚ on Thursday.

According to a police source with knowledge of the incident‚ Sassa employees blocked the road adjacent to Umlazi District Office in W Section‚ in an apparent dispute over pay.

Police officers were deployed to the scene as the group burnt refuse in the roadway.
