Challenger Takashi Uchiyama of Japan defeated Mexico’s Juan Carlos Salgado on a technical knockout Monday to capture the WBA super featherweight title.

Uchiyama sent Salgado to the mat with a combination to the head late in the final round. Salgado returned to his feet briefly before the referee stopped the bout with 10 seconds left.

Uchiyama improved to 14-0 with 11 KOs while Salgado, who won the title when he knocked out Jorge Linares of Venezuela in October, dropped to 21-1-1.

Poonsawat Kratingdaenggym of Thailand defeated Japan’s Satoshi Hosano to defend his WBA super bantamweight title.

The 29-year-old Poonsawat (40-1-0) built up a solid lead in the middle rounds and held on for the first defense of the title he won by defeating Ireland’s Bernard Dunne last September.

Two judges scored the bout 117-113 and 115-113 in favor of Poonsawat while a third scored it a draw.
